You probably brush your teeth at least once a day. Maybe even twice a day (that’d be awesome!). Usually we have the image of our teeth getting whiter and more beautiful with every brush, making us easily motivated to pick up that toothbrush and get to work. But, how many of us think about our gum health while we brush? More importantly, who is thinking about keeping our gums healthy when we feel just a little too tired to get up and go to the washroom to brush? Unfortunately, the answer is not many, but the reality is gum health is every bit as important as tooth health, and maybe even MORE!
It’s all about the bacteria that can grow along your gum line. It causes inflammation, and if you’ve read any of the recent studies into the effect of inflammation on our overall health, you’ll know just how devastating it can be. It can cause infection, pain, swelling, and bleeding along your gum line. But, even worse, gum disease can be present before you notice any of these signs! The only way of knowing for sure is having a dental professional do a complete check up.
Inflamed, infected gums can cause major problems, not just in your mouth, but in your entire body. It’s impossible to have a healthy body without a healthy mouth. So, when you plan out your day, be sure to include time for two great brushing sessions and floss regularly, not only for a beautiful smile but to keep those gums as healthy as possible. Your entire body will thank you!
